Middle School

Where potential is Unleashed

Waving Hand

Schutz is a school where enthusiasm for learning and a strong sense of belonging are evident throughout our community. Our motto, “Schutz is Family,” reflects the caring, respectful, and supportive environment that defines our school culture.

Our Middle School program is designed to meet the unique developmental needs of young adolescents while providing personalized learning experiences that challenge, engage, and inspire. Our faculty is dedicated to fostering curiosity, independence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, set goals, reflect on their growth, and develop the skills necessary to become confident and capable learners.

At Schutz, we recognize that middle school students are navigating a period of significant growth and change. They are developing greater independence, building stronger peer relationships, and maturing at their own individual pace. This understanding informs our approach to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student support, ensuring that learning experiences are both developmentally appropriate and responsive to individual needs.

Guided by our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, and Compassion, students are encouraged to challenge themselves academically, contribute positively to their community, and develop the confidence to pursue their passions. Through meaningful learning experiences, students strengthen their communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills while exploring their interests and talents.

Leadership and service opportunities, including Model United Nations, Week Without Walls, student leadership initiatives, and community engagement projects, help students develop a strong sense of global citizenship and social responsibility. At Schutz, we empower students to understand their impact on the world around them and prepare them to become thoughtful, engaged, and compassionate leaders in an increasingly interconnected world.

This is a time of exploration and discovery for students. We offer a wide range of academic and extracurricular programs to help our students find their passions and develop their talents.

Schutz is a school where enthusiasm for learning and being a member of a respectful and caring family community are readily apparent. Our motto is, “Schutz is Family”.

As an IB MYP school, our Middle School faculty is dedicated to fostering students’ curiosity, skill development, and love for learning. Lessons are thoughtfully designed to encourage critical and creative thinking, while also nurturing strong character and essential life skills. In every aspect of school life, the Schutz Learner Profile—respect, responsibility, resilience, compassion, and integrity—is meaningfully incorporated to empower students to reach their fullest potential.

Our students are encouraged to take responsibility for their lives and to recognize how they can positively impact both their local community and the wider world. Leadership development opportunities, such as Model United Nations and Week Without Walls, play a key role in promoting global citizenship and preparing our students to make a difference internationally.

At Schutz, we recognize that:

  • Students are seeking new levels of independence and can be highly peer centered.
  • Changes students are experiencing affect their thinking and behavior.
  • Each young adolescent is maturing on his or her own timeline.
  • This understanding of young adolescent development also affects decisions about curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Our Middle School educational programs are founded on the following four pillars:
  • Developmentally responsive: using the distinctive nature of young adolescents as the foundation upon which all decisions about school organization, policies, curriculum, instruction and assessment are made.
  • Challenging: ensuring that every student learns and every member of the learning community is held to high expectations.
  • Empowering: providing all students with the knowledge and skills they need to take responsibility for their lives, to address life’s challenges, to function successfully at all levels of society and to be creators of knowledge.
  • Equitable: advocating for and ensuring every student’s right to learn and providing appropriately challenging and relevant learning opportunities for every student.
  • Students are empowered to take responsibility for their lives while also recognizing how they can make a positive difference in their community and internationally. The Middle School has leadership development activities such as Model United Nations and Week Without Walls, which are highly successful in promoting global citizenship.
