Pathway Program

Demonstrating Impact & Growth

Understanding the Schutz Pathway Program

The Schutz Pathway Program is designed to foster student growth; it emphasizes development through co-curricular activities rather than academic performance.
This initiative allows students to exhibit their impact and growth in various areas, including the arts, athletics, service learning, internships, and other experiences both inside and outside of school. Specifically tailored for Schutz High School students, the program serves as a platform for individuals to showcase their passions and interests, regardless of their setting.

To fulfill the program’s requirements, all high school students must present a distinct project before graduation. The designated timeframe for students to submit their projects spans from grades 9 through 12.

A growth project necessitates that the students engage in an activity or pursue a passion for a minimum duration of one month. In this process, each student must collaborate with a mentor or adult who will complete the necessary documentation and provide oversight for their growth journey.

It is important to note that growth projects are not subject to grading, nor do they receive academic credit. These projects may be linked to school-sponsored club activities or initiatives outside of the school environment. Additionally, a growth project could originate from a class assignment that encourages students to make a meaningful impact beyond the confines of the classroom.

Collaboration is also a viable option, as students have the opportunity to work on group projects. Ultimately, students are required to present how their project has influenced their community or contributed to their personal development, highlighting the growth they have experienced. Furthermore, students need to articulate the learning outcomes derived from their experiences.

Purpose of the Pathway Program

It’s meant for students to focus on developing a variety of skills to ensure the success of their growth projects.

Here are some key skills to consider:

  1. Project Management
  2. Communication
  3. Critical Thinking
  4. Collaboration and Teamwork
  5. Research Skills
  6. Creativity and Innovation
  7. Leadership
  8. Time Management
  9. Adaptability
  10. Presentation Skills
  11. Reflection and Evaluation

By focusing on these skills, students will not only enhance their ability to successfully complete their growth projects but also gain valuable competencies that will benefit them in their academic and professional futures.

Summer Internship at Xperience Kiroseiz Parkland

As a child, I’ve always wanted to try and work or learn what people do at the hotel I’ve been going to since I was a child. I told myself one day when I’m older I’m going to work there and learn everything and I stood by my word.

Since my family owns the hotel the process was very easy and smooth. I didn’t need to fill in any applications or had any requirements to fulfill, I let my parents know and they helped me. My father recommended that it would be best fit for me to work at reception since there are so many things I can learn. On the first day of my trip, my father introduced me to the Front Office Manager who was in charge of the reception. I got a full tour and worked with sales for a few days and started right away.

From this project I came out with so many learning outcomes which is something I am very proud of some of the learning outcomes include excellent customer service skills where I had to provide assistance to help guests and handle any of their inquiries, great communication skills where I had to communicate clearly and perfectly with guests and colleagues, multitasking skills where I had to multitask multiple tasks like handling phone calls and checking in guests, time management skills where I needed to make sure that I got to work on time and if I was meeting with someone I had to be there at the exact time and finally conflict resolution skills where I learned skills to resolve any issues or conflicts with guests and colleagues but in a professional manner.  These were also strengths I developed as well as adaptability, problem solving and teamwork. I have also improved in multiple areas including technical skills, leadership and time management.

I was able to develop these skills through this experience because I was exposed to handling a lot of problems, talking with a variety of people, including guests and colleagues and connecting with them on a daily basis. I would say that working with others definitely boosted my productivity, helped me develop professionalism, enhanced my creativity and improved my communication.

When reflecting on my experience, I can definitely connect it to multiple aspects in the IB Learner Profile like risk taking, balance, communication, and open mindedness. I can connect my experience to risk taking because I definitely took the risk of working at a much younger age in the travel and tourism industry which isn’t so preferable in Egypt but I had the courage to do it even though it wasn’t the easiest thing to do. With balance I had to balance my vacation time with work time. Even though I was there to work, it was also my vacation from school and I needed some time to rest but not all the time. communicated with multiple people including guests, colleagues and even tourism companies.

With communication I I also had to be open minded because sometimes a guest might do something you don’t really like or give you attitude and I’m not supposed to react but instead stay calm.

In conclusion, this experience was definitely very useful to me and helped me gain and understand so many things and put me in a work environment at a younger age which will help with my future career. I would definitely do this whole experience again in the summer as it was also quite fun while coming out with multiple learning outcomes. Communicating with others from different countries in the world is definitely a huge skill that I will value through my whole life since it’s not as easy as one may think. I got exposed to multiple people with different nationalities that all talk in different languages and attitudes which are sometimes hard to understand and be able to mediate with.

THIMUN ‘24 Video

Creating a video to document our THIMUN trip was a meaningful and rewarding experience that pushed me to learn, adapt, and grow. I wanted to capture the essence of our journey and share it in a way that would remind us all of what made it special.

I started by teaching myself how to use a GoPro, which was new to me. I experimented with it before the trip and spent time researching editing tools so I’d be ready to put everything together right after the trip. These steps were a bit challenging, but they taught me how important preparation is when trying something new.

During the trip, I filmed moments that really reflected our experience inside and outside of the conference. It wasn’t always easy to balance filming with fully participating in the conference, but I made it work. When we got home, I spent hours sorting through all of the clips and putting them together to create a video that told the story of our experience. Editing was harder than I expected, but it was also where I felt the most creative.

Even though it was mostly an individual project, I didn’t do it completely alone. My friends gave me feedback on what to include and how to structure the video which made the final product better.

It reminded me how important collaboration is.

Looking back, I’m proud of what I created and everything I learned along the way. I developed new technical skills, became more comfortable with creative challenges, and discovered how amazing it is to share a story that connects with others. This project has inspired me to create other videos and it has become one of my favorite hobbies.

Call on Earth Day

Ma réflexion sur mon projet de Pathway:

Dans notre cours de français, on a appris comment protéger l’environnement. On a aussi compris notre rôle dans cette protection. Cela a inspiré mon Pathway Projet.

Love in A box

Love in a Box is a project that truly helped me embody the learner profile traits and what the CAS experience is truly about. First and foremost, I was able to be an inquirer, and this guided me through the journey of asking questions to see who we would help and what these kids truly needed. Second, I also embodied the trait of being a risk taker, because although this project did happen at Schutz before it was conducted in a completely different manner and was run by teachers at the school, this time, I took student action and brought this project to life and added an event portion too which has never happened before. I also embodied the learner profile trait of being caring because this was what the project was all about, caring for others in our community.

Senior Class Merchandise Design

I worked on a project to create custom senior merchandise, including shirts and hoodies, to be worn on the first day of school. I was involved in the entire design process, from brainstorming ideas with the designer, selecting fabrics and colors, collecting signatures from each senior, and incorporating images that represented each senior. The goal was to create a unique and personalized design that would represent the senior class and be a memorable item for everyone to wear.

This project gave me a deeper appreciation for the power of design in fostering community and unity. It was rewarding to see the final product come together, knowing it would be worn by all seniors on the first day of school. I learned a lot about digital design, project planning, and collaboration. I also recognized the importance of inclusivity and how small design choices can have a significant impact on how people feel represented. This project strengthened my skills in creative problem-solving and enhanced my ability to manage collaborative efforts.
