Where Dreams Take Root

High school

Schutz provides a nurturing environment where students can explore their interests, develop their talents, and achieve their aspirations.

The High School philosophy at Schutz American School is based on the school’s Learner Profile and the school’s mission to provide a premier education empowering all of our students to pursue their passions as confident global citizens.

Our High School serves students in grades 9–12, with class sizes typically ranging from 18 to 20 students. At Schutz, students are active participants in their own learning journey. They collaborate in establishing essential agreements that shape both academic expectations and behavioral norms. We foster a strong sense of student agency—defined as the ability to take meaningful and intentional action—while promoting an understanding of individual rights and responsibilities. This approach empowers students with voice, choice, and ownership in their learning experience.

The High School curriculum at Schutz is both rigorous and relevant, firmly grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. Students engage in a comprehensive range of academic disciplines, including Language Arts, History and Social Studies, Mathematics, Physical and Life Sciences, Computer Science, World Languages, Fine and Performing Arts, and Physical Education. This well-rounded academic foundation is designed to prepare students for the demands of higher education and lifelong learning.

A cornerstone of the academic program is our robust Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum, which offers college-level coursework to students who are ready to take on greater academic challenges. Multiple AP courses are offered each year, and classes are rotated strategically to allow upperclassmen to accumulate a broader AP course portfolio over their final two years. This approach ensures students have the opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement based on their performance in AP exams, giving them a competitive edge in university admissions.

Schutz provides a solid U.S. college preparatory education that guarantees all graduates meet or exceed minimum university entrance requirements. As a result, Schutz graduates have successfully enrolled in a wide range of selective universities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Egypt.

Beyond academics, the curriculum is further enriched by a vibrant array of extracurricular activities, clubs, organizations, and athletic programs. These opportunities empower students to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and grow into well-rounded individuals. Together, our academic and extracurricular offerings reflect our commitment to excellence and holistic student development.

The school has been a regular participant in THIMUN conference in The Netherlands since 1994 and Schutz has been a pioneer in MUN in Alexandria hosting the very first MUN conference for local schools since 2013.
